Haute Society Day of Service
    Juneteeth Celebration
Haute Society is asking Black-owned Business, HBCU current students and Alumni, Black Organizations, and the community to join us for our 1st Annual Mobile Parade!! We ask that you join us, as we stand united to empower the community as we rebuild together and celebrate Juneteenth !!
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteeth is the celebration of  African American Independence within the United States.  It is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Cel-Liberation Day. It is an American holiday celebrated on June 19th. It commemorates Texas, Union General, reading of the federal orders given in Galveston Texas. It was read on June 19, 1865, and it declared that all those previously enslaved people in Texas were FREE.
Why is Juneteenth Important?
The Emancipation Proclamation was declared on January 1, 1863. This declaration was to free all enslaved people within the United States. The American Civil War continued, yet the North had won the majority of the states. The South was determined not to rejoin the Union.  So while many enslaved people were living free in northern states, the south was still enforcing slavery.  It took the South almost two and have a half years to concede and follow the declaration. This is why the Juneteeth is celebrated because on this day everyone for the first time was no longer enslaved.
What led to this Day of Service?
The current climate in Chicago following the murder of George Floyd.  George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis, white police officer. Officer Derek Chauvin. He knelt on this neck for over eight minutes. This terrible incident led to worldwide protests of police brutality and racist policing.  It has left many  Chicago residents with emotional and financial stress. Haute Society is seeking to bridge the gaps and bring the community together. With so many Black Owned Business, HBCU ALumni and thought leaders within Chicago. We wanted to bring the community together to uplift, empower,  and show a united front as African Americans. Chicago has a long history of not including us in their decision and we want to demand a change, demand to be heard, and no longer depicted negatively.
